G. Dep Receives 15 Years To Life For 1993 Murder Of John Henkel

Nearly two years after confessing to murder, rapper G-Dep has learned how long he will spend behind bars for the act. A judge sentenced the former Bad Boy artist to 15 years to life for his role in the 1993 shooting of a Harlem man. Dep was given the minimum sentence, which may or may not have been due to his confession. In December of 2010 the father of three walked into a New York police station and admitted to robbing and shooting a man, which investigators were able to link to the then unsolved murder of John Henkel. While in prison Dep attempted to recant his story claiming that he did not shoot Henkel, but another victim. He also maintains that he was unaware that the victim had died after the shooting. "My hope is that Trevell never wavers from his decision,” said Dep's lawyer, Anthony Ricco. "Fifteen years is a long time. Fifteen years in the penitentiary for putting yourself there is an even longer time." As he preps to spend a good chunk of his life behind bars, Dep has stated working on a book about his life. "It's one of those things where I'm not trying to explain or justify anything," he said during an interview from prison. "It's just I'm trying to just give people my last option. Obviously I can't record. I don't know if people are wondering what's going on or even care, but this is something from an artistic point of view that will kind of close out what I was doing, for now. It might kinda answer some people's questions." Back in 1998 Dep was signed to Bad Boy under a five-album deal.

Busta Rhymes Scheduled To Headline 8th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival

With over two decades in a business that chews up and spits out lesser acts, the dungeon dragon Busta Rhymes' formidable career and his continuing ability to smash stages and features is an astounding testament to his tenacity. Recognizing Bussa Bus and his rare talent is Brooklyn Bodega, the producers behind the annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival (BHF). For his efforts, Busta Rhymes has been scheduled as the headlining act for the six-day festival this coming July. BHF fans who were in attendance last year saw Bus catch wreck on the BHF stage after fellow veteran MC Q-Tip brought out the snarling rapper as part of his “Q-Tip and Friends” set; a concept introduced by BHF in where headliners are selectively handpicked to represent the festival's main aim. The former Leader Of The New School standout made his name in the 90s and has steadily wowed listeners, including a scene-stealing cameo on Chris Brown's smash hit “Look At Me Now.” BHF president Wes Jackson gushed over Busta Rhymes in a statement announcing the rapper's headlining role. "One of the most interesting things that kept coming up when we talked about Busta in the office is all the different 'Bustas' there were. Busta to me is the skinny kid from 'Sound Of The Zeekers'. To other cats in the office he is the muse of Hype Williams and the definitive artist of the video era. To younger fans he is the guy who killed it on the Chris Brown song. To purists he was Dilla's biggest supporter after Q-Tip. Just as Q-Tip was in 2011, Busta is the embodiment of what Brooklyn Bodega and The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival is all about,” said Jackson glowingly.

Washington National Cathedral To Unveil Rosa Parks Statue

The Washington National Cathedral is set to immortalize the legacy of Rosa Parks by dedicating a statue to the civil rights pioneer, to be unveiled Thursday (May 10). The statue will be placed in the section of the church dedicated to human rights. Parks, who passed away in 2005, will join the likes of other noted human rights figures including former Eleanor Roosevelt. Rhea McCauley, one of Parks' nieces, will attend the ceremony along with Elaine Eason Steele, co-founder of the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development. The organization was founded in 1987 by Steel and Parks in commemoration of her husband, Raymond. Parks became famous in 1955 ,after her refusal to get up from her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Ala. helped to kick-start the Civil Rights Movement and the fight to end segregation. Over the years, Parks worked closely with other historical figures like Martin Luther King Jr., whose memory was honored in 2010, via a statue on the D.C. National Mall.

Virginia Man Arrested For Sending Death Threats To President Obama

A Virginia man is behind bars after threatening to send a bomb to the White House to kill President Obama. Christopher Hecker was arrested last Thursday (MAY 3) after publicizing his disdain for the president, whom he believes is trying to put an end to patriotism. Sighting Ted Nugent's racist rant against the Commander in Chief as validation, Hecker contacted the Turner Corp. last month detailing his steps towards killing Obama. "I sent a bomb threat to the White House today and to several radio stations," Hecker wrote in an email to the company. "Sooner or later I will grab someone, maybe in the woods, on the trail, and beat the life out of them. "[Obama] is the one that is destroying patriotism in the U.S.A. Ted Nugent is right. So, Obama is allowing me to be tortured to the point that I may murder someone, rather than deal with the mess he made. Your president is a coward." Obama was in Virginia over the weekend to kick-off his re-election campaign, but Hecker was already in custody by the time the president touched down. The Waynesboro, Va. resident was arrested by the Secret Service outside of a local library. Agents were able to determine that Hecker was using computers at the facility to send out threats after exchanging several emails with him. During his hearing held Friday (May 4), Hecker announced plans to plead no contest to all charges, and asked to be sentenced to death—immediately. Needless to say, a judge ordered him to undergo psychological evaluation.

Suge Knight Not Arrested For Tupac Shakur's Murder

Contrary to Twitter rumor, Suge Knight has not been arrested for Tupac Shakur's murder. The annual Suge killed Pac chatter recently ramped up no doubt thanks to VH1's latest Behind The Music documentary on the Notorious B.I.G., where former LAPD detective Greg Kading alleges that it was the Death Row co-founder that had the Brooklyn rapper killed. When Suge is in the news, it's only a matter of time before Pac's name comes up since he's long been rumored to be behind the "California Love" rapper's death. However, the talk of Knight being arrested for Pac's 1996 murder was just rumor. "I don't have any information that Suge Knight has been arrested," Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Laura Meltzer told E! Online. "We picked him up on some traffic warrants back in February and that is the last arrest I show for him."

It has finally been confirmed that rap star Andre 3000 will play Jimi Hendrix in a biopic about the rock legend, scheduled to begin filming later this month in Ireland. According to the Irish Film & Television Network, the film will be called “All Is By My Side,” and will document the time between 1966-1967, when Hendrix was first discovered in a New York night club, and then moved to England to record his debut album, “Are You Experienced.” Hendrix has been credited with creating some of the best guitar-driven records ever made, and ultimately changing the rock and roll game. The biopic is being written and directed by John Ridley, who is best known as the writer of “Three Kings” and “Red Tails.” This is a great role for 3 Stacks, and we can’t wait to see what he’ll do with it! Andre 3000 definitely has the look and charisma of Jimi Hendrix. They probably won’t even need a costume designer, because 10 bucks says 3000 already has all the outfits in his closet.
