Stars Talk MJB Hair Evolution

NEW YORK – AMC Networks’ WE tv has greenlit an eight-episode, one-hour original series featuring sisters Erica and Tina Campbell of three-time Grammy award winning Gospel duo Mary Mary as part of a push to start “super serving” urban audiences on Thursday nights.

The series, tentatively titled Mary Mary, will follow the musicians as they balance careers and families and add to WE tv’s growing lineup of original programming that showcases “every kind of family and all kinds of drama.”

The network said the show will debut on March 29 – after the second season run of Braxton Family Values - and air on Thursday nights. The channel said the show is part of its strategy to launch a third night of original programming dedicated to serving its growing urban audience.

“Mary Mary is a great fit for WE tv,” said Kim Martin, president & general manager, WE tv. “Erica and Tina are modern women balancing careers and family and doing it in the spotlight. Their issues are the same as so many women today, and this show will capture the entertaining ups and downs of life that they face on a daily basis.”

WE tv’s popular bridal programming, such as Bridezillas and My Fair Wedding with David Tutera, has established a Sunday following. Earlier this year, the network unveiled a second night of originals on Tuesdays, which showcases a modern view of family life. Shows like Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best? and Braxton Family Values have been on that night.

“Thursdays are an extension of this strategy and will be dedicated to super serving WE tv’s growing urban audience,” the network said Monday.

Rostrum Records CEO Discusses Success Of “Blue Slide Park” As Independent Release

Rostrum Records CEO Benjy Grinberg recently discussed the independent success of Mac Miller’s new album Blue Slide Park, which is currently the #1 album in the country.

Blue Slide Park is the first independent release to reach #1 on the national sales charts in over 15 years.

The last time such a feat occurred was in 1998, when the Dogg Pound hit the top with their debut album Dogg Food.

Mac Miller’s rise to the top of the charts is significant, because over 76% of his sales were comprised of digital copies.

The digital version of the album was distributed by INgrooves, while Fontana Distribution handled the release’s shipments to physical retailers.

“We wanted to release this album independently and on our own terms,” Benjy Grinberg, President of Rostrum Records told in a statement. “INgrooves and Fontana have been great partners for Rostrum on this project, and the current success of Blue Slide Park is a true testament that it’s possible for us to compete as an independent on a grander scale.”

Rostrum formulated a strategy with INgrooves and Fontana to capitalize on Mac Miller’s Internet presence.

Mac Miller has over 1 million Twitter followers, while his YouTube videos are approaching an aggregate total of 100 million views.

Those numbers, along with constant touring, helped the Pittsburgh native move a whopping 144,487 copies in the first week.

“This is a big moment for the independent music community,” said Dave Zierler, EVP & General Manager, INgrooves. “Rostrum and Mac are proof that a digitally-focused independent effort works in today’s dynamic music marketplace, by engaging fans directly and maximizing availability to all consumers via our global online retail network.”

For Fontana, the album’s success proof that traditional record labels and independents can maximize their distribution power by developing distribution strategies for all mediums.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of this history-making album. The evolving commercial landscape calls for changes in the way that music is marketed and the success ofBlue Slide Park shows a great understanding of social media, by all those involved,” added Ron Spaulding, President of Fontana. “To be a part of this success is very gratifying. I see it as a vote of confidence for the independent music industry.”

Nicki Beats Lil Wayne, Kanye At AMA’s

Rapper Nicki Minaj was the big winner in the hip-hop category during last night’s American Music Awards.

Nicki’s album Pink Friday was crowned Album of the Year, while the rapper was named Favorite Hip-Hop Artist.

Nicki was shocked when she accepted both of her awards during the AMA’s, where she also performed “Turn Me On” and “Super Bass,” with two speakers plugged into her curvaceous backside.

“I didn’t think I was going to win it,” Nicki told the crowd before offering some advice.

“Love yourself no matter what. There’s power in your peace,” the philosophizing rapper said.

Other performers during the AMA’s included Pitbull,, Mary J. Blige, and others.

Taylor Swift and Adele were the big winner of the evening, taking home three AMA’s each, with Swift landing the coveted Artist of the Year award.

Other winners included Adele, Usher, Beyonce, Rihanna, Foo Fighters, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars and Chris Brown.

T.I. Names His New Album 'Trouble Man,' Talks Upcoming Single

T.I. has settled on the name of his new album.

"Trouble Man" is the title of Tip's forthcoming eighth studio LP. The name obviously refers to the Atlanta rapper's frequent problems with the law, Those troubles have not ruined his work ethic though. Since his September release from prison he's recorded 45 new songs.

"Every where he goes, he stops through the studio," T.I.'s assistant told Billboard.

Tip says he already has a new single ready to go.

"I have this one record [titled] 'Pyro' that I'm proud of," T.I. said. "'Pyro' is a straight party record. It's nostalgic of those crazy nights, early mornings [but] just turned up."

In addition to working on his new album, T.I. is also filming a reality show for VH1 titled "The Family Hustle."

"Trouble Man" will be released in early 2012.
