Magic Johnson Disputes NBA Lawyer Stating David Stern Is Like A 'Slave Owner'

Lawyer: NBA Owners Treat Players Like “Plantation Workers

Attorney Jeffrey Kessler who represents the NBA players' association, told the Washington Post that owners are treating players like “plantation workers” during the ongoing lockout.
Bryant Gumbel also made mention of Stern being similar to a plantation owner.
Well Magic Johnson, retired hall of fame NBA legend is coming to the defense of Stern saying he is not a racist and he was responsible for making sure minorities had and have high-ranking positions in the league.

“It was David Stern who took this league worldwide. And so those guys know it was because of David Stern and what he was able to do,”
Johnson said.
The two sides are meeting again this week for a deal that is said to be 98 percent done. Since then Kessler has rescinded his comments making this statement.
“The comments that I made to The Washington Post Monday night took place quite late, at the end of a lengthy interview.
And looking back, I believe that the words I used were inappropriate, and I am going to communicate my apologies for that to the N.B.A. and to the commissioner, who I will call and indicate that I apologize for that choices of words.
The important thing for the parties is to get together and try to make a deal, and we have to put aside any other types of distractions.”

22 McGraw

If you are a hard core Hip Hop fan with concern about the lack of good lyrical content in today’s music, you need not look any further. Fortunately for you, there’s a new kid in town. And he goes by the name of 22 McGraw.

The HardRoc Records recording artist was born and raised in the Baxter Terrace Housing Projects in Newark, NJ. Growing up, he always had a passion for music and was heavily influenced by the styles of Bootsy Collins, 2Pac, Nas, Redman, Snoop Dogg and Max B. With big dreams, a pen and his pad, McGraw began writing lyrics at the age of 12. But there was one small obstacle he had to overcome, stage fright. After a few performances, he kicked his fear of the stage and since then he has been focused on sharing his story with the world.

In a interview with BKS1 Radio, McGraw explained, “I was raised in a middle class home. The things I talk about in my rhymes aren’t all things I have necessarily done. But everything that I talk about is real or something that I have witnessed first hand. When I rap, I speak for those who don’t have the ability to tell their story. Through me, we will all be heard.”

The self-proclaimed “hooktician’s” latest contribution to Hip Hop, “Up Dere: The Northern Lights Edition”, appropriately released on 4/20/2011, is an ode to one of his favorite past times. Songs like “Bali Run” and “We Have Fun” featuring Chad B are up tempo classics with bass knocking beats. While tracks like “Background Boy”, “So Smart” and “Let’s Get Right” featuring Skeemz take listeners on a mellow “futuristic” journey. 22 has also been featured on “Nov. 24th”, a mix-tape in which he collaborated on with friend and fellow label mate, Chad B.

Humble, hungry and ready to take the industry by storm, 22 McGraw is well on his way. Fans and potential fans, stay tuned. He’s on the come up.

Eddie Murphy Exits As Oscar Host

Eddie Murphy has withdrawn as host of the Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday.

The decision came a day after his friend Brett Ratner resigned as producer of the telecast in the wake of his making offensive public remarks that upset AMPAS members.

In a statement, Murphy said, "I completely understand and support each party's decision with regard to a change of producers for this year's Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I'm sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job."

Also from TheWrap: Brett Ratner apologizes for gay slur at 'Tower Heist' screening

Because Murphy had accepted the hosting gig at the invitation of Ratner, many Oscar watchers (including this one) speculated that Ratner's resignation might lead to this outcome. The two collaborated on the comedy caper "Tower Heist."

Murphy already had a stormy history with the Oscars. He appeared on the show several times, most recently when he presented Jerry Lewis with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2009, but is famously known for making an early exit from the Kodak Theatre in 2006 after losing to Alan Arkin in the Best Supporting Actor category.

Tell us on Facebook: Who would you like to see take Murphy's place as Oscars host?

That nomination, for "Dreamgirls," was the only one of Murphy's career.

Murphy was reported to be upset at Ratner's departure, but most Academy members contacted after the producer's departure speculated that Murphy would wait before deciding whether to exit.

"He needs to stay on and work with the new producer, or it'll look like he's supporting the stuff that Brett said," said one member of the public relations branch on Tuesday afternoon. "He won't look good if he leaves now."

Also: Brett Ratner resigns as producer of Oscar telecast

Murphy, though, recently told Rolling Stone that he considers himself "a semi-retired gentleman of leisure," and said, "I only want to do what I really want to do, otherwise I'm content to sit here and play my guitar all day."

Early in his career, Murphy dealt with his own charges of homophobia, and apologized for joking about AIDS and using derogatory language to refer to gays.

TMZ has just obtained new footage of Dark Man X vacuuming a South Carolina nightclub. No word on why he decided to help out, but he said last week that he's not too proud to do some cleaning.

Ball So Hard: Will Ferrell 'Flattered' By Jay-Z& Kanye West ' N*ggaz in Paris' Cameo

It's one of the biggest — and most inexplicable — hits of 2011, a song so popular that its hook was name-checked during player introductions on Sunday Night Football, so massive that Jay-Z and Kanye West have taken to performing it multiple times per set on their Watch the Throne Tour.

We're talking, of course, about "N---as in Paris," the max-impact Throne single that has become a sensation, thanks in no small part to producer Hit-Boy's bouncing beat, West's pop-cult wordplay ("What's that jacket, Margiela?") and, of course, a pair of oddball samples taken from Will Ferrell's 2007 figure-skating comedy "Blades of Glory."

As you're probably aware, "Paris" kicks off with Ferrell's grizzled Chazz Michael Michaels defiantly declaring, "We're gonna skate to one song and one song only," then really picks up steam mid-song, when (in a move that could alternately be described as "completely inspired" or "completely insane"), Hit-Boy drops the beat and lets the song roll on a second Ferrell sample: " No one knows what it means, but it's provocative ... it gets the people going!"

And, indeed, it has done just that. "Paris" currently sits atop Billboard's Hip-Hop/R&B Charts, dominates urban radio and has received a thunderous response at Throne shows. And, thanks to Ferrell's contributions, it's certainly one of the oddest mainstream hip-hop tracks in recent history too. And if you're wondering how the whole thing came to be, well, you're not the only one: Turns out, Ferrell's pretty mystified by the track too, as he told MTV News in an email Tuesday (November 8).

"Kanye reached out to me and I said, 'Of course,' " Ferrell wrote. "I was completely flattered when they asked if they could sample me into the song ... and when I heard it for the first time, I just started to laugh because it felt so surreal. But I really did like the song."

So much so, in fact, that Ferrell said he's hoping to take the Throne collaboration to the next level — "We were trying to film a piece that they would use on the video boards of their concert, but haven't gotten it together," he wrote — and the whole process has opened his eyes to an entirely new career opportunity: Being the go-to sample guy on the hip hop circuit.

"I think [something from] 'Step Brothers' would be good [to use in a song]," he wrote. "Or the Woody Allen movie I did, 'Melinda and Melinda.' "

Regardless of whether any of those ideas come to fruition, thanks to the "Paris" success, Ferrell can bask in his newfound street cred, which is certainly at an all-time high. And that's saying something for a guy who once starred opposite Andre 3000.

"It makes me feel very good," he wrote. "And completely justified for buying a V-neck sweater made out of nothing but diamonds."

Joe Paterno Retires: Legendary Coach Issues Statement On Retirement, Scandal

Penn State football coach Joe Paterno released the following statement Wednesday:

"I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case. I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief.

I have come to work every day for the last 61 years with one clear goal in mind: To serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care. I have the same goal today.

That's why I have decided to announce my retirement effective at the end of this season. At this moment the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address. I want to make this as easy for them as I possibly can.

This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more.

My goals now are to keep my commitments to my players and staff and finish the season with dignity and determination. And then I will spend the rest of my life doing everything I can to help this University."
